How do I know if my tree is dying or dangerous?
Warning signs include large dead branches, fungus or mushrooms at the base, peeling bark, a sudden lean, and cracks in the trunk. Some of these are fixable and some mean the tree needs to come down before it decides on its own.
When is the best time of year to trim trees?
For most species, late winter dormancy is ideal — the tree heals faster and you can see the branch structure clearly. That said, dead, damaged, or hazardous limbs should be removed whenever you find them, regardless of season.
